RU-486 - Ontario becomes sixth province to provide free (taxpayer funded) chemical abortions
Ontario becomes sixth province to provide free (taxpayer funded) chemical abortions Sadly, on August 10, the Ontario Government began to provide the abortion pill Mifegymiso (RU-486) free of cost to women who can provide a health card and prescription. Minister of the Status of Women, Indira Naidoo-Harris, and Minister of Health and Longterm Care, Eric Hoskins, announced on Thursday, August 3, that the government had included the cost in their late Spring’s budget, adding yet another expenditure to provincial debt. Ontario will be the 6th province to cover the expenses of the drug. New Brunswick set the trend in April of this year, to which Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan followed. Prince Edward Island is currently considering the option. Mifegymiso is the Canadian brand name for the chemical abortion drug RU-486. This drug consists of two pills that can be taken up to seven weeks gestation. The first, Mifepristone, blocks the flow of progesterone, starving the baby to death. The second, Misoprostol, induces hemorrhaging which expels the dead body. Several studies from the United States and Europe have found that many women who’ve taken RU-486 have experienced severe side effects such as excessive blood loss, infertility and septic shock. Some women have even died. Since the drug’s legalization in 2015, Campaign Life Coalition has called for its repeal and worked to educate the publicthrough its March for Life Campaign “RU4Life” and most recent campaign “#Ru486RuCrazy?!”. The provincial funding of chemical abortions is additionally upsetting, as it is likely that Mifegymiso will cost taxpayers a lot more than just $300-$500 per dose. Additional costs may include the initial doctor’s visit to receive the prescription, the mother’s checkups after the pills have been taken (Health Canada recommends 4), the additional surgical abortion of 1 in 20 women whose chemical abortions failed (predicted by Health Canada), the remuneration for women who’ve died as a result of the pills, and the countless treatment of potential side effects. These costs are being added to a budget that already fully covers surgical abortions, despite being close to $312 billion in debt. And this debt will be loaded onto demographically declining future generations who have not been aborted.
